Volunteers of China Overseas participated in Christmas afternoon tea party workshop in YWCA Nursery School

Christmas is around the corner! Many people have great ideas to spend their Christmas with family and friends. But some people would like to spread their love and care to people in need in our community. Volunteer team of China Overseas Holdings Limited organised an afternoon tea workshop with YWCA Chiu Oi Wah Nursery School. They spent an enjoyable afternoon tea party with the nursery school students there.

“YWCA Jockey Club Joyful Transition with Families” garnered two awards in Best Practice Awards in Social Welfare

Organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, 2023 Best Practice Awards in Social Welfare aims at recognising and promoting innovative, inspiring and forward-looking practical experiences in the social service sector. “YWCA Jockey Club Joyful Transition with Families” grasped two awards including Outstanding Social Service Award and Outstanding Performance Indicators Award (Collaboration & Synergy).

YWCA “Amazing Elderly Puppet Show” honoured with an award in “Opportunities for the Elderly project”

Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre organised a one-year cross-generation programme “Amazing Elderly Puppet Show”. Secondary school students and social work university students collected true stories from the elderly and wrote the script for the puppet show. The young and the old also worked together to make hand puppets and performed in front of the public, displaying the passion and energy of the elderly.

Hong Kong Elite Athletes teamed up with YWCA to launch “Together We Care 2023”

As the co-organiser, YWCA worked with Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association, the main sponsor Hong Kong Jockey Club, and the supporting organisation Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School to launch the “Together We Care 2023”. Mr. Li Xiao-peng, previous National gymnast, and a group of existing Hong Kong athletes and retired elite athletes attended the event to spread love and care to families in need. 

Linde volunteer team visited elderly living in stilt houses in Tai O

Being one of the hottest picks by tourists, Tai O is a historic fishing village away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Located in the remote area with an ageing population, elderly living in Tai O lack resources and require assistance with their daily lives. Linde Materials Handling Hong Kong Limited volunteer team paid home visits to elderly living in stilt houses in Tai O and spread their love by presenting gift packs.

Young Old Handmade Products Ready to Shine in YWCA’s Vintage Fair

The public lent a helping hand to flood victims in North District

Affected by extreme weather last month, severe flooding happened in large area of Hong Kong, including the North District. YWCA reacted promptly to coordinate post-disaster solutions including comforting the flood victims and identifying their immediate needs, organising volunteer teams from different sectors, pleading for donation from corporations, and liaising with different government departments to coordinate all remedy work. Many responded to our calls and lent flood victims a helping hand.

Picture book of my Grandparents Exhibition and Cross-generations Fun Day

Organised by YWCA Jockey Club Family Wellness Centre and funded by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, Picture book of my Grandparents Project aimed at promoting harmonious cross-generations relationship. The programme guided children to record the happy moments spent with their grandparents through writings and drawings, which finally turned into precious picture books to be given their grandparents as gift. 190 families joined the programme and finished making 209 picture books.

YWCA organised Jockey Club “Plan & Go” Active Ageing Programme for young retirees to strike for a meaningful retirement

Funded by Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club “Plan & Go” Active Ageing Programme encourages young-olds to live a meaningful and happy retirement. Participants take part in innovative activities and expand their social network. Having discovered their talents and interests, they develop and achieve their retirement plans accordingly.
