Organised by YWCA Jockey Club Family Wellness Centre and funded by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, Picture book of my Grandparents Project aimed at promoting harmonious cross-generations relationship. The programme guided children to record the happy moments spent with their grandparents through writings and drawings, which finally turned into precious picture books to be given their grandparents as gift. 190 families joined the programme and finished making 209 picture books.
Funded by Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club “Plan & Go” Active Ageing Programme encourages young-olds to live a meaningful and happy retirement. Participants take part in innovative activities and expand their social network. Having discovered their talents and interests, they develop and achieve their retirement plans accordingly.
Young leaders and honorable volunteers of YWCA went on an exchange tour to Seoul, Korea recently. They visited National YWCA of Korea and several places to learn about local women’s issues and explore various social hot topics, especially nuclear and peace issues in Korea through different activities and meetings. They were allowed to examine the subjects in different angles which broadened their mindset.
Every handicraft product comes with a heartwarming story! A group of old ladies enriched their retirement and found satisfaction in sharing their stories with handmade products. “Online Handmade Market” was then hosted to show people the talents of the old ladies and to raise fund for YWCA Jockey Club Y Evergreen Learning Centre.
After a year of struggle to fight against COVID-19, people start to flock to the countryside to enjoy fresh air and relax. The hiking trail on Fu Shan is famous for its beautiful landscape and nicely preserved path, which make it an attractive option for a family day out. However, the environment has been spoiled by rubbish hikers left behind. To make the trail nice again, YWCA Y Eco Tour Tai O Cultural and Ecological Integrated Resource Centre recruited a few youth volunteers for a clean-up activity.
YWCA has been working with Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association (HKEAA) for years to organise "Together We Care", sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, to visit and bring gifts to the underprivileged. Although the event has been postponed by the unexpected pandemic, we are still keen to send love and care to the elders and grassroots.
YouTuber has been an emerging occupation among the younger generation. It also attracts attention from certain elderly groups, e.g. the grandparents who joined the new programme organised by the Association’s Sai Wan Social Centre for the Elderly. Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme invited a young YouTuber to instruct the participants to write scripts, compose the frames, design sets etc.
The Association was pleased to be one of the NGO partners in PARKnSHOP Cash Food Coupon Charity Programme in a bid to reduce the financial burden of the underprivileged under COVID-19 pandemic.
YWCA hosted an international conference in December with the theme “Solidarity for a Better World” to inherit the past and usher in the future and celebrate her 100th anniversary. The conference invited representatives from the United Nations and World YWCA, scholars, women leaders, social welfare leaders to speak about gender equality, women empowerment, evangelical work, social innovation and technology etc., in order to build a better world.
