Picture book of my Grandparents Exhibition and Cross-generations Fun Day

Organised by YWCA Jockey Club Family Wellness Centre and funded by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, Picture book of my Grandparents Project aimed at promoting harmonious cross-generations relationship. The programme guided children to record the happy moments spent with their grandparents through writings and drawings, which finally turned into precious picture books to be given their grandparents as gift. 190 families joined the programme and finished making 209 picture books.

Challenge accepted: elderly YouTubers on the go

YouTuber has been an emerging occupation among the younger generation. It also attracts attention from certain elderly groups, e.g. the grandparents who joined the new programme organised by the Association’s Sai Wan Social Centre for the Elderly. Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme invited a young YouTuber to instruct the participants to write scripts, compose the frames, design sets etc.

Three of the Association’s “Opportunities for the Elderly Projects” received District Best Activity Award

The Social Welfare Department organised an online award ceremony for “Opportunities for the Elderly Project”. The Association received 3 District Best Activity Awards, recognising our effort on promoting intergenerational harmony and caring for the elderly.

Watsons Water organised the first online visit to send care to the elderly

To reduce the risk of infection, YWCA’s Care & Attention Homes for the Elderly have suspended all visiting arrangements since the outbreak of COVID-19. With no visitors, life becomes dull. In order to entertain the elderly while keeping social distance, Watsons Water’s volunteers organised an online event, “Fun with the Elderly during the Fight against the Epidemic”, to celebrate the Senior Citizens Day with over 150 residents from the Association’s Wan Wah Care & Attention Home for the Elderly.

Volunteers provided free haircut service to elders

The Association’s Tai O Community Work Office invited a volunteer team to provide free haircut service for elderly living in Tai O.

To avoid travelling long distances, Tai O residents with impaired mobility seldom leave the island. On epidemic influence, elderly stay at home for even longer yet might not be able to meet their family members elsewhere. Hence, the Association invited a volunteer team to visit the elderly and provided free haircut service.

Stretching workshops encourage elders to exercise at home during epidemic

Exercise can improve one’s physical health and help relax mentally. While people avoid going out during the COVID-19 outbreak, elders are forced to change their habits, such as doing exercise at the park, and some of them get weak as a result of a lack of exercise. To encourage the elderly to make exercise at home a habit, HKYWCA Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre cooperates with Excellence Fitness to organise two stretching workshops, and share proper techniques and sports knowledge.
